QE's Applique Club meets from 2-4 pm the fourth Tuesday of each month. This fun group explores a variety of applique techniques to develop skills, enhance knowledge and keep advised of all the new products and techniques available to all who love to applique. Currently the "A" Team members are working on Tree of Life quilts. There is no registration fee and participants may join any time.
Bella Verona
Once again QE will host a quilt designed by Wing and a Prayer Designs. This year's project, Bella Verona, lives up to the beauty of our past two year's projects. This club will be lead by Alice Kay Arnett. Beginning in April, 2012, Bella Verona will meet monthly on the third Monday of each month from 1-3 pm. Club meetings will feature demonstrations, question and answers, and show and tell. No sewing will ocur in club.
Monthly club fabric kits will be available for purchase. The price is TBA. The pattern will be included in the price of the fabric kit, or is available for purchase for those choosing to use your own fabric.
Morris Meadows Arts & Crafts Sampler
This nine-block applique sampler uses the Morris Meadows line by Michele Hill for In the Beginning fabrics. Carolyn Abernethy will be teaching this class. It is appropriate to use in either fusible machine applique or needle turn applique techniques. Carolyn will be going over both methods.
Morris Meadows Club will meet the first Wednesday of each month, beginning in February from 2-4 pm. This club will meet for 9 months (excluding July), concluding with a completed quilt top before Christmas. Club meetings will include demonstration, discussion, question and answer, time for you to work on your project, and show and tell.
The Club fee is $150; this includes all fabric for your quilt top, the complete pattern, and your monthly instruction. You will receive your pattern and all material at the time of payment.
The Farmer's Wife Sampler
In 1922, The Farmer's Wife magazine posed this question to their readers: "If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in light of your own experience, have her marry a farmer?" The magazine at that time had 750,000 subscribers, and received over 7,000 letters. The best answers to this question are included in this book, along with the traditional quilt blocks they inspired.
Mary McDonald will be leading this club and participants will have the option of cutting blocks during the class period. Use fabrics from your stash or we would be happy to assist you in creating your "one-of-a-kind" kit for this quilt.
Farmer's Wife will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8 pm. This club will begin in April, 2012 and will continue for one year.
Registration is required. There will be a monthly fee of $10 and purchase of the book is required.
Love LettersThis beautiful Block-of-the-Month will be led by Samantha Ewers. The completed sample is already on display in the shop. To use fabric more efficiently and to keeps costs low, these kits will be complete and distributed at the first meeting in February. Complete kit, including backing, cost is $250. If you would like to use other fabrics, pattern only cost for the club is $60.
This group will meet noon-1 pm on the fourth Thursday for six months beginning in February.
Merry Merry SnowmenIn response to requests for a holiday-themed Block-of-the-Month, Kathleen Bertoncelj is offering this snowman sampler. It will meet 4-5 pm on second Tuesdays from March through October. Monthly kit and pricing details TBA.
19th Century Textile ScholarsHave you ever wanted to make an authentic 19th Century reproduction scrap quilt, but are uncertain of appropriate fabric choices and colors? During the monthly meetings with Wendye Ware and Jill Zimmermann, you will receive sample packets of fabric, information about c.1790-1910 textiles by decade, keep an ongoing notebook of handouts, have access to several personal quilt research libraries available for loan, enjoy guest speakers and have the opportunity to join us on several field trips. We will make and swap blocks with other members to complete four quilts during the year. Fabric choice including color, value and print size along with other strict guidelines will apply.
At the first meeting of each quarter, participants will receive samples and/or appropriate fabric for the construction of the quarter's quilt blocks. Handouts will be distributed about the era. Block construction techniques and pressing rules will be demonstrated. The second meeting of each quarter will entail and show and tell of blocks completed thus far. A date for the completion of blocks will be stressed. At the third meeting of each quarter, a set of completed blocks will be distributed to participants. Setting possibilities for the blocks will be discussed. Participants are welcome to swap their blocks further if so desired.
Field trips will be scheduled during class hours or on Saturdays.
The monthly fee of $25 covers all but travel costs associated with the field trips; a detailed handout is available at QE.
Roses of Remembrance Club
Roses of Remembrance Applique Club began in July, 2011 and will last 13 months; it is being taught by Jill Zimmermann, QE store manager. The group meets on the second Wednesday from 2-4 pm. Coming up: January 11, February 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, and August 8. The club is based on The Rose of Sharon Block Book by Sharon Pederson and the design challenge from EQ6 that inspired her finished project. The club has been limited to 10 members who are choosing their preference of applique methods, specific block designs from the challenge, and fabric choices from the Island Batik kits provided. Membership fee is $35 and then a monthly $25.
Second Saturday Sampler
Come to QE the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 am for a 30 minute free session with Alice Kay Arnett. Use your stash or we can provide guidance in fabric selection for your quilt. Everyone receives a free quilt block pattern along with a free fat quarter when they bring their finished block from the previous month. The blocks will come together in a beautiful sampler quilt at the end of the year.
No registration or fee required. The 2012 project will begin in February. Fabric yardage requirements and the first block will be discussed at that time.
Stories & Stitches
What makes you happy? If reading and quilting are near the top of your list, this casual club is for you! Stories & Stitches meets the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at QE. Enjoy refreshments as you discuss a quilting-related book, then learn about a quilting project related to the following month's book. Group leadership is being shared throughout the winter and spring.
On March 7, 2012,Katie Frickwill lead the discussion of The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. Kathleen Bertoncelj will provide the quilt-related demonstration. Meetings will be $10 each month. People are welcome to attend any or all meetings. Group leader: shared among interested participants
Women of CourageThe Women of Courage fabric collection has luscious floral prints, beautiful tonal blenders, and a breathtaking color palette of brown, tan, red, teal, and green.
